Engaging your audience through a visual platform such as Instagram is a great way for Accountants and Financial Consultants to allow the personality of their business to come through and bring a human touch to services that are not always considered photographic. nstagram is the fifth most popular social media channel for accountants according to our research, perhaps expectedly sitting behind Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and YouTube. Instagram can be a great tool for bringing some visual personality to your accountancy practice, allowing people to take a peek behind the scenes of your firm, meet the directors and get a taste of the company culture.  If you’re thinking of reaching out to a new audience via Instagram in 2020 consider these seven types of content that you can share.  

Before you begin, remember these pointers:

  • Portray your company as approachable and personable and you’ll begin to cut through the digital noise
  • Consistency is key, so keep working on your Instagram feed, follow some basic principals and don’t expect overnight results
  • Show your company personality
  • Keep your audience in mind
  • Use hashtags at the end of your posts
  • Don’t overlook seasonal holidays and events for opportunities to post
  • Use online software like Canva or Adobe Spark to create visually appealing posts


1) Introduce your team members.

Add photos of your team to your Instagram feed to put a human face to your company. Think of these posts like a mini ‘meet the team’ page. Tell your audience about their likes, dislikes, particular skills and favourite biscuits!


2) Share your blog posts

Only about 30% of accountants write original blog content, so even by writing a blog post, you are going some way to stand out from the crowd. Make sure you share your blog posts by posting the title in an Instagram post and writing a brief description and link in the comments.


3) Share team events, awards or achievements

Have you recently won an award, had your Christmas party or have an upcoming business exhibition? Share your photos before, during and after the event!

Only about 30% of accountants write original blog content, so by writing and publishing blogs you are already making great progress to differentiate your accountancy practice, and this serves to provide useful social media content!


4) Share company updates

New staff, new services or a new office? Show people, be it a photo, text-description or a picture of the new staff member (with their permission of course!).


5) Show your workplace

Let your audience see where you work. Show them the office building from the outside (especially useful  for potential customers!)


6) Share tips, quotes or fun-facts that your audience may find helpful

‘Did you know you can claim tax back on this?’ ‘Don’t forget the deadline for self-assessment is then’… small quick tips like this will be invaluable to your audience, whether they are customers or not.


7) Answer any frequently asked questions

Create a series of short Q&A posts. Similar to sharing helpful tips. This sort of content will be useful to your audience whether they are customers or not.
